Description
This was taken at Point Imperial, North Rim, Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA.
********
Point Imperial, the highest point on the North Rim at 8,803 feet (2,683 meters), overlooks the Painted Desert and the eastern end of Grand Canyon. Here the canyon transforms as the narrow walls of Marble Canyon, visible only as a winding gash, open dramatically to become "grand." Layers of red and black Precambrian rocks, not visible at Bright Angel Point, add contrast and color. Part of the viewpoint is accessible. http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/placestogo.htm

I plan to visit the canyon next month, Lucinda! I hope to get some reference shots for a future painting. Just thinking about it is daunting after my recent completion today of ZION. I spent almost 60 hours on it, but good training for the Grand Canyon! Just imagine attempting to paint what you see here in your beautiful capture....a million brushstrokes maybe? We'll see but I won't count!!!
Lucinda Walter replied:
We are so fortunate to live close to these wonderful sights. I will be looking forward to seeing your paintings of the Grand Canyon. Your work of ZION is stunning. I could see why you spend so many hours and brushstrokes on that gorgeous work... Might take just as many when you do your work on the Grand Canyon. :))
